A TOTAL of 17 teams, including three Pro Tour outfits, have been confirmed for the 15th Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) on March 1-7.
Astana of Kazakhstan and Spain's Caisse d'Epargne will start as favourites for this year's Tour regardless of who their rider line-up will be. Spain's Footon-Servetto is the other Pro Tour team confirmed by the LTdL organisers thus far.

Professional continental team ISD-Neri, the Ukraine-backed and Italian-registered team will be the closest challengers to the favourites, with the likelihood of defending champions Diquigiovanni from Venezuela giving this year's Tour a miss.

The rest of the 17-team line-up to date are made up of predominantly Asian continental teams, with Australia's Drapac-Porsche, who are set to feature Malaysia's Adiq Husainie Othman in their line-up, the representative of Oceania.

The Kazakhstan national team will make a return with what will likely be their Under-23 side preparing for the World Championships, while the ever-present South African national team are also expected to be among the contenders.

Local fans will have their eyes on the preparations of not only the national team and LeTua Cycling Team, but also on South Korea's Geumsan Ginseng, who will have Malaysian Anuar Manan as their key sprinter.
Adiq Husainie Othman will make his debut for Drapac-Porsche in the 15th LTdL.

Road training taking a toll on cyclist Adiq

By SHAMSHUL FITRI

Sunday December 27, 2009

PETALING JAYA: It has been just a month since cyclist Adiq Husainie Othman donned the red jersey of Drapac-Porsche team in Melbourne. And he has already lost 6kg in weight

The tough training regime carried out by the Division Two continental outfit has taken a toll on the Terengganu lad, but he has no complaints about it.

“Everyday after training, my body will feel the pain from the work that I have put in. But it’s only a matter of time before I get used to it, probably in another two or three weeks,” he said.

The 18-year-old Adiq said that training for road races with Drapac-Prosche is different from training for track events as he used to undergo under national chief coach John Beasley.

“It’s tougher but I really don’t mind. My new team-mates are nice people and they are helping me a lot to make me feel welcome in the team,” he said.

“I can’t wait to start the new year racing with my new team, especially in Under-23 category races here in Australia.”

But the most anticipated race for Adiq in the first quarter of next year will be the Tour of Langkawi in March, where the route will take riders past his hometown in Kemaman.

Drapac-Porsche have been invited to participate in the 15th edition of the Tour, which will cover a total distance of 1,008.1km.

“I have always dreamt of racing through my hometown with a professional outfit. And in March, my dream may just become a reality,” he said.

Adiq perlu masa sesuai diri menjelang LTdL 2010

27 Disember 2009...

KUALA LUMPUR - Pelumba basikal trek remaja negara, Mohd.

Gilap potensi Adiq

Coach Beasley has big plans for Adiq in Tour of Langkawi

Wednesday November 25, 2009

By LIM TEIK HUAT

PETALING JAYA: Adiq Husainie Othman (pic) is the country’s first World Junior Championship medal winner in track cycling but coach John Beasley feels that his prospect to be a top rider was better on the road.

Although the 18-year-old continued to show his potential on track with an impressive performance in the second leg of the Track World Cup in Melbourne last week, Beasley is keen to let him go for a pre-season road training in Europe with an eye on a strong campaign in the Tour of Langkawi next year.

Adiq, who has been with Australian professional continental team Drapac-Porsche in Melbourne for the last two months, competed in the points race in the second leg of the World Cup. He won his qualifying heat en route to a 10th place finish in the final.

He also made the scratch race final in the first leg in Manchester last month.

Adiq first made his mark on the track with a bronze medal effort at the world junior meet in Moscow in August. He followed up with a silver in the men’s road race in the Asian championships in Indonesia.

“He is doing equally well in the track endurance races but that is part of the training process,” said Beasley in a telephone interview from Melbourne.

“Adiq definitely has huge potential on the road and I believe he will make it big there too. The immediate focus is to get him to continue with early season training as I would want him to ride in the Tour of Langkawi and, hopefully, spring some surprises.”

If he switches focus to the road, it could mean having to forego participation in the World Track Championships in Copenhagen in March if he makes the grade.

Beasley added that they had not come to a final decision on the matter.

“We will deal with it when the time comes. We have to look at his best interests and talk to him to see what he wants,” said the Australian.

“As it is, he is a good prospect for the track and road competitions in the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games next year.”

Adiq impresses in Melbourne

2009/11/20

TEENAGER Adiq Husainie Othman notched another piece of personal history when he finished 10th in the final of the points race at Round Two of the UCI World Cup in Melbourne yesterday.

The 18-year-old did that in style, winning a nail-biting qualifying heat which could have gone to any of the five top riders.

Adiq Husainie was tied at the end of the qualifying heat on 25 points together with Denmark's Daniel Kreutzfeld, but finished ahead of the Dane in the final sprint.

The final saw Adiq Husainie up against a field of 20 big names, and the Malaysian wasn't at all overawed with a collection of 11 points at the finish.

Australia's Cameron Meyer edged Greece's Ioannis Tamouridis in the final sprint after both were tied on 33 points in the race for gold ahead of the pack of 20. Poland's Lukasz Bujko took the bronze with 28 points.

Fatehah Mustapa scraped through to the knockout stages with a 16th fastest qualifying time of 11.972s, then lost out to China's Guo Shuang in the quarter-final.

The team sprint trio of Edrus Yunos, Josiah Ng and Hafiz Sufian clocked a time of 46.533s to place ninth, in the event which saw the Team Jayco trio of Australians Daniel Ellis, Shane Perkins and Scott Sunderland post the fastest time of 44.449s.

Today provides a more interesting prospect for Malaysia beginning with 2007 Asian junior champion Syamil Baharum's start in the 1km time trial.

Azizul Hasni Awang starts for the BT Australia team in the keirin, determined for a podium finish, but he first has to negotiate a tricky first round heat that includes the likes of Germany's Carsten Bergemann, Barbados' Barry Forde and France's Thomas Bonafos. -- ARNAZ M. KHAIRUL
